THE HENS
We did a lot of research before getting chickens back in 2018, and we've learned a lot over the last few years. It's been a fun and very rewarding experience.
Not only are the eggs delicious, but the chickens are always a source of entertainment and really add a great energy to the garden. They also provide excellent compost for our garden beds, and they love it when we give them bug-eaten or over-ripe harvest or weeds from the garden.
We feed them Purina Organic Layer pellets, and they get mealworms and locally-made scratch as treats. The mealworms have proven to be a very effective training aid!
All but one of our hens were mail-order chicks, so we've learned a few tips and tricks along the way and look forward to sharing them with you.
